Gotham Awards Winners

The awards season all in full swing with last night’s Gotham Awards. The big winner was Spotlight, winning Best Feature and Best Screenplay. That film also was awarded with a Special Jury Award for Ensemble cast. The film is so fantastic and reminds of the old school, journalistic films of the 70s. Another big winner was Sean Baker’s iPhone shot Tangerine, winning the Audience Award and Breakthrough Actor for Mya Taylor.

Paul Dano won Best Actor for his unbelievably  brave and brilliant portrayal of Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy. He is running in the supporting category for the Oscars so this win at the Gotham Awards should add more pressure to the Academy to ensure Mr. Dano is nominated. They should be nominating Elizabeth Banks and John Cusack as well.

The National Board of Review, not really indicative of what will eventually happen, but a good boost was given to Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian and Creed. We than get the New York Film Critics tomorrow which should really give a taste of what the elites in film journalism and criticism are really supporting. I am looking for a lot of love for Spotlight, Anomalisa, Love & Mercy and Carol. Full list of winners below. Enjoy!
